Yo! We're happy to announce that we will be finishing our album very shortly and that it will be released in the spring of 2012! As we're still negotiating, we can't tell you on what label it will be released and whether it'll be available on vinyl right away. But as always, keep your eyes on the website or our facebook to stay informed on all them details. In the meantime, we've arranged a little sneak peak for y'all to hold you over. Enjoy!
Hi there! It's your good friends from Jaya the Cat wishing you a very merry christmas and a happy new year. If you're in Holland for the holidays you're in luck cause we'll be playing our annual X-mas show on December 26th at the Fenix in Sittard and on New Year's Eve we'll be playing the S.K.A. Oud & Nieuw party at the Scum Terrein in Katwijk.
New album
Yes, we know. We're taking waaaay too long with this new album and frankly we're getting really anxious to finally be able to release this damn thing, too. To make sure this happens sooner than later we've actually taken some time off from touring. So, you'll have to miss us out there for the first couple of months of 2012, but know that we're working our asses off to get this record done. We're not gonna shoot ourselves in the foot again by trying to give you an estimate on when it will be done cause the next time we do, we want it to be true :) Hang in there for a bit and hopefully see you soon.
Peace and love,
(Your friends) Jaya the Cat
P.S. London was awesome last month...
P.P.S. This compilation record is out now with a very rare Jaya song on it. Get it get it get it!
While everyone's movember stash starts to take on serious form, we figured it's time for another update. We just got back from the UK and want to thank all of our delicious friends over there for two amazing weeks. This is what you can expect from us for the remainder of this year:
Balkan shows
Unfortunately we weren't able to wrok out a show in Serbia. We've been trying all year and had some good options but they all fell through at the last moment. We'll try and make it work again next year. On a more positive note, we did manage to work out some gigs in Macedonia and Bulgaria:
German shows
Heads up Karlsruhe, Herrenberg, Düsseldorf and Hamburg cause we're coming back! Check the the Tour section for details. Here's some flyers:
X-mas and New Year's in Holland
As always, we'll be playing our annual X-mas show on December 26th at the Fenix in Sittard. Get your tickets early cause this one always sells out! And on New Year's Eve we'll be playing the Ska Oud & Nieuw party at the Scum Terrein in Katwijk. Get your ass over there and help us bring out the sun on the coldest party of the year!
New Album
While we keep flying around Europe for all those shows, our producer and mixing engineers are hard at work to put the final touches on our 4th studio album. We can't give you many more details yet, but if you saw us on our UK tour, you know that more and more of the new songs are sneaking their way into the set. We don't have a release date yet, but keep your eyes on our website or Facebook page and be the first to know!
Wayne
Here's our buddy Wayne (on his birthday) surprising us with a little taste of America at the beginning of Are You with Me. Enjoy!
So I guess we owe you an apology. Out of the three main goals we set out last July, only two will come to fruition. We regret to inform you that we will not be releasing our new album this year. Almost all of it is recorded and mixing is going well, but once everything is done and we've cut a new deal with whoever is gonna release this thing, we'll be in 2012. We were hoping it wasn't gonna come to this but apparently this is the way the universe wants it to go down. The good news is that the promise that this album will be FUCKING AWESOME remains true! We can't wait to share all of this with you guys.
First Beer vinyl release
Amidst the aforementioned setback, we did manage to re-release our 2nd album (First Beer of a New Day) on vinyl. Of course we'll be more than happy to sell you this limited edition orange vinyl at our merch stand, but for those of you not living anywhere close to where we'll be playing the rest of this year, you can also order it at the IHP Records Online Store
Awesome shows
This was one of the awesome shows we promised you. We hope to do loads more before the end of the year:
Oh and in case you were wondering... Yes, we were completely hammered :)
Ohhh yes my lovelies, once again it's time for the most awesomest weekend of the year. Two words:
Alright so here's the deal. We've made a plan for the 2nd half of 2011 and we hope to get all of this done before the end of the year:
New album
We're still on track to release a new album this year. We're almost done recording and meanwhile we've started the mixing process. We're obviously very excited and we'll try to leak a new song here or there to allow you to share the excitement.
First Beer of a New Day vinyl release
We got a hold of the masters of our album First Beer of a New Day and thought why not turn those into a nice shiny 180 grams vinyl format? We'll keep you updated on here to let you know when and where to get it!
Tons of awesome shows
Because we're not sure when our new record will be available exactly, it's hard to plan a tour around it at this stage but don't worry, we'll keep up the gigs until we do anyway. There's a list of confirmed gigs on our facebook and website but on top of that we're working on more gigs in Greece, Bulgaria and yes, Serbia.
Here's some promos for upcoming gigs:
July 20th: Pork Pie Open Air - Sofia (BG)
Holy shitballs we've been ripping it up in Germany these last few weeks and we're nowhere near being done. We've got Kassel, Freising and the always awesome Ruhrpott Rodeo coming up:
Sublime with Rome
On June 17th we're gonna be super busy. Late night we play the sexy sounding Fête de la Musique en Roture in Liège (B), but before that we open up for Sublime with Rome at the Effenaar in Eindhoven (NL).
New album
Unfortunately we still aren't able to disclose a release date for our upcoming album. We're still aiming for a release in the fall, but in the meantime we've still got some mixing, mastering and haggling with the suits to do. Of course we'll make sure you guys are the first to hear when anything becomes more clear.
What's up cat people! We're here to let you know that we'll be back in the studio this month to finish recording on what's looking to become a seriously wicked album. Between studio dates we'll drop in on our German friends for a few hangovers. This is happening on Saturday (May 7th):
And 3 weeks after that we're playing Hamburg:
Hopefully we can announce some shows in countries we haven't been for a while next month. Please keep your eye on our website in the meantime.
You know what's fun? Touring. Especially when awesome people like you show up to our gigs. Our UK tour last month with our new best friends in Broken Nose was one crazy booze fueled bacchanal and that's the way we like it, and between now and then Germany has been extremely kind to us as well.
But don't worry, we're making sure we're keeping our eyes on the prize. The prize being a brand new Jaya the Cat album by the end of this year. This month we're back in the studio trying to wrap this baby up. As soon as there's anything close enough to being finished, we promise we'll give you a little sneak peek (or listen) over here. Until then we'll continue our constant touring to try out new songs and to generate some cash cause this studio time don't come cheap, yo! So next time when you're at a Jaya gig, why not buy an extra shirt or hoodie at our merch stand for one of your buddies or something so we can put all these sweet tunes on tape...
We leave you this month with our rendition of Manu Chao's Mr Bobby played at the Parish in Huddersfield, featuring one of the local Jaya the Cat Go-Go dancers. Good night internet!
Free hugs!
If you live in the UK you're in luck. Jaya the cat are coming to your beautiful country from the 17th to give out free hugs to you and your mom. And your friend's mom. Everybody's mom really. And if you're mom is sexy, maybe it'll be more than a hug. Maybe it'll turn into a snuggle. And don't even get us started on your friend's mom. Either way you're making us pancakes in the morning. Check out the Tour section so you don't miss out on any of the awesome.
And another thing...
This is where we post stuff that happened to us since our last update. We're famous in Greece now. Carnaval in Sittard was awesome. Enjoy.
Howdy! Just a quick shout from the studio here where we're having a lot of fun recording the new tracks and they're coming out awesome. You'll still have to wait till at least the fall for the actual album but we're trying to get you a sneak peak as soon as we can. Here's a few pics to prove to you that we're not lying:
And another thing, here's us recording a tune you may have already heard at one of our gigs:
New tourdates
In the meantime we just keep touring like we do. This month we're going around Greece with our buddies in 63 High and in March we're back in the UK to do some gigs with Broken Nose and no doubt a bunch of other bands. By the way, please note that our show in Camden on the 26th has been moved to the Purple Turtle. Check the Tour section for details.
Happy new year y'all! Your good friends from Jaya the Cat want to wish you all the best for 2011 and we hope to see you all again this year cause we're planning some big tours as well as a brand new album. We kick it all of in the Jersey of Amsterdam with an indoor festival at De Meester in Almere City on January 8th:
After that we'll jump back into the studio to work on the new tracks. Those of you who have seen us over the last months have been privy to the direction we're taking with the new album and the response has been great! We hope to give you some more sneak peeks in shows to come.
New shows announced
Check out the Tour section for new shows. We've already put up most of our UK headlining tour in March along with some other cool stuff. Be sure to check back here for updates on Dutch, German, Greek, Bulgarian, Russian, French, Swiss and Austrian dates and yes, we'll also work it out this year to play a show in Belgrade (Serbia). We owe you people big time!
We're very curious to see what 2011 will bring for us but we've got a feeling it just might be awesome. Whoop whoop!
Damn it feels good to just be playing good old Holland sometimes. Geoff (barely) made it back from his DJ tour in Romania/Bulgaria/Greece and we were welcomed by the lovely people of Den Haag and Delft for a couple of really awesome shows. Special thanks goes out to the crew of the Koornbeurs who helped us load the van at 7AM after we had a flat tire, tried to change it and the whole thing slipped off the jack due to the icy road...
Here's what we look like when you show up to a gig wearing night vision goggles:
Right now we're gearing up for our upcoming German/Slovakian tour that will start this Friday in Cologne. We're proud to say we've added a last minute gig in Linz, Austria on December 16th at a place called Stadtwerkstatt. Tell your friends.
If you've seen Jaya before, you may be aware of the fact that we're not afraid to throw in a minor line up change here and there. Get ready to see Jay on bass and a new guy called Daniel on keys. We trust you'll welcome him with the same love and awesomeness as you have done with us over the years.
Also, don't forget to check out our buddies in Urban Majik Johnson who will be supporting us for the first 3 dates of this tour. See you on the road bitches!
Hi! Let's start this one off with a bit of a bummer. Our show in Zierikzee on the 9th of this month got cancelled due to unforseen circumstances. Sorry about that one, but we'll make it up to you sometime in January 2011. In other news, we're delighted to inform you that our show with Sublime with Rome was fuckin' ace and we'd like to thank everyone for getting a ticket before that snowball melted (see September news). Here's a fan made video of what you could've been a part of:
Also, we're glad to announce that the shows keep piling up for us during the remainder of this year and that yes, in the beginning of next year we'll finally pay a visit to all of our Russian fans. Keep your eye on the Tour section on this site. Stay sexy Jaya fans and we'll see you when our paths cross. Whoop!
UPDATE: Sublime with Rome
Yo yo yo we're playing with Sublime with Rome at the Melkweg on October 5th. Get your tickets now cause this thing is gonna sell out faster than a snowball in a duck's anus.
Hi everyone! So after a string of late summer excitement in Germany and Holland, we're off to embark on 9 days of mayhem in the UK with our buddies The Skints. The tour kicks off on thursday the 23rd in Cardiff, where we'll also be joined by the awesome Dirty Revolution. A listing of all the dates can be found in the TOUR section, so come on out, it's gonna be great! October will find us in Holland, Germany and France in between resuming work on our next album, we'll be sure to keep you updated in our typical lazy fashion, and hope to see you all at a show sometime soon! Over!
What's up internet? We're enjoying the summer all over Europe. Here's some nice pics of the Eier mit Speck festival in Viersen (Germany):
And of course, we wouldn't want you to miss out on Darth Vader who showed up at our gig in Castricum last night...
Upcoming shows This week we'll be in the UK for some nice ones. Tomorrow (Aug 3rd) we're opening up for The Aggrolites at Dingwalls in Camden and on Friday we're playing the always awesome Rebellion Festival in Blackpool
Later this month we'll be at the Azfeszt in Hungary. Here's the promo to prove it:
See you there! Love as always from your friends, Jaya the Cat
So guess what. After two years of being very awesome (and very hairy) on the bass, Jeroen decided to quit ol' Jaya the Cat. We obviously wish him nothing but the best while he tries his luck down under (cause that's where he's taking off to). We've had some amazing times with him and are forever grateful for the way he was able to deal with this bunch of drunken maniacs that you all know and love. But don't start reaching for the tissues just yet ladies, cause yes, THIS GUY IS BACK:
Steven used to play for Jaya until Jeroen joined in 2008 and was kind enough to fill in while we look for a permanent solution. And not a minute too soon, cause we're headed down to Austria and Slovenia this weekend for some shows that we're really looking forward to. And the fun doesn't stop there, cause to make sure Steven doesn't steal everyone's shine right away, we're bringing THIS ASSHOLE along:
Now don't get too exited, Jody Ray over here is not a permanent addition to the band. He's just along for the ride. And what a ride it will be.
Yo. We've been kicking it around Holland and Germany this past month and as always everyone's been great. Too bad we couldn't do a full set at the Ruhrpott Rodeo festival, but there's a good chance we'll be back there next year which is something we'd be very happy about cause that place rocks as you can see in this here video:
What else? Oh yeah, while we're posting YouTube stuff, be sure to check out the high quality registration of our show in Sofia in April. This is us with a little help from our buddy Yanko:
And fuck it, here's another one:
New tour dates up And finally, be sure to check our tour section for the new dates. We're confirmed for two shows on the Dutch Waddeneilanden in June and in August we'll be back in the UK for some killer shows like the always awesome Rebellion Festival in Blackpool.
Hey kids, first off our massive apologies for keeping you in the dark about what we've been up to over the last six months. As announced last November, we have been in the studio quite a bit. Things are shaping up nicely and we're all very excited about how everything sounds so far. We hope to release some new material this year, but we haven't been able to set a date yet. We are trying out the new material during our live shows though, so if you're getting anxious for new Jaya jams, come check us out across Europe this summer.
In between recording sessions we obviously haven't forgotten to party our balls off, which we'll continue to do as long as we still have the strength left in us to stumble up to the bar. Speaking of which, we'd like to give a big shout out to all our buddies old and new in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania! You guys treated us so well over the last month, we felt like we were on holiday the entire time. (The fact that that part of the world has the hottest girls ever walking around helps a lot too.) Fucking awesome. We'd once again would like to make our sincere apologies to everybody who showed up for our Belgrade show. We had to cancel that one due to massive issues at the Bosnian/Croatian border, which resulted in a 6 hour delay. We hope to make it up to you guys sooner than later.
Until then, stay groovy and see you somewhere down the crazy river!
Studio
So we've been slowing down on our constant touring to start recording our
next album! First session went great, all the basic tracks for nine new
jaya songs are layed down and as soon as that's finished we'll be back
in the studio for more awesomeness!
Austria
This weekend we are heading out for a small tour through Austria. 3 shows
are lined up including one of our favorite clubs, the Chelsea, in Vienna.
Check www.jayathecat.com/tour.html for details, and hope to see you all
out at one of the gigs!
Germany
We're heading back to the land of beer and bratwurst! Unfortunately,
we've had to cancel Osnabruck because of situations outside our control.
We hope you guys will show up with all your friends in Hamburg, Koln
and Lindau and party it up. it's gonna be a great couple of weekends!
Holland
We are wrapping the final shows supporting
our last album ' More Late Night Transmissions with...' starting with the
Netherlands. We have 9 shows lined-up including the Melkweg in our hometown
Amsterdam. So for all our dutch friends, this will be the last chance to
see us live this year in Holland, come on down and party with us.
End of September and the beginning of October we'll be playing some
shows in Germany including Koln and Hamburg. And in November we'll be
do a short tour in Austria including Vienna before we head back to the
studio to finish up our next album!
So come on out and dance, baby!
So it's August already and we've
had a busy summer playing festivals all over Europe. Cheers to everyone
we've seen so far in Germany, France, Holland, Luxembourg, Czech and
Croatia, from what we remember it's been a wicked time! Coming up is
the Punk rock extravaganza Rebellion festival in Blackpool. Looks to
be a great time, with alot of classic as well as new school bands on
the lineup. We're playing Sunday the 9th at 14.25 sharp, so if you're
gonna be there get up early and drink your hangover away with Jaya The
Cat! If you're in the UK but can't make it we are also playing the Underworld
in London and an all day punk/ska/reggae festival in Gravesend.
We'll also be back in Germany as well as Hungary on August 21 for the Azfest festival, sharing the stage with bands like Skindred, The Toasters and Anti-Flag. It's suppose to be the laid back version of the Sziget festival so we think it will be a blast! Check out our website for more details (Tour). For the rest of the month we'll be having a little band vacation to regroup and get our heads together for the fall!
September
In September we're starting with a bunch of Dutch club dates (including our yearly night of hometown debauchery at the Melkweg in Amsterdam) before heading into the studio to start working on our new record! So have a great summer, come see us play and check out our web sites in September for more news.
France Tour, Germany and Luxembourg dates
Starting tomorrow we are going for a nice trip to the land of wine and good life called La France. Most shows are in the south and one show in Spain (beach place of Barcalona). So feel free to join us at one of our shows. Later this month we are back in Germany (festivals!) for 4 shows and one in Luxembourg so here is santé to that! More details for our shows (links, map etc) can be found on the tour section.
After a month of working on new songs and hanging in Amsterdam it's time to hit the van again and do some serious touring...
UK Tour
We're starting on our second UK tour! Most of the dates are supported by The Skints. We'll also be playing at the O2 Academy, Sheffield with Streetlight Manifesto. Make sure you get your tickets in advance! Go to the Tour section for more info about tickets, locations, etc...
France Tour
In May we'll be touring in France. Most shows are in the southern part so if you feel like to making a little trip to the south of France come on out and drink some wine and plat petanque with jaya the cat!
US release
'More Late Night Transmissions with...' is out on I Scream Records in the US. Here are some nice reviews of the album:
www.guestlistmagazine.net/reviewsj "With the watered down so called punk rock scene these days, when a band like Jaya The Cat comes along it seems almost a no brainer that rejoicing is clearly in order. The band originally hails from Boston and it clearly shows throughout this album. The Boston styled street punk that you have come to love from bands like The Street Dogs, Lost City Angels etc… rings out as you listen to tracks like "Mistake," "The Carnival," and more. You will quickly be pumping your fist in the air as the vocals pull you into the songs, and the simple guitar riffs drive right through the verses and into the soon to be anthem choruses for the new generation. However, this isn't just a street punk band and that is exactly what helps to separate Jaya The Cat from the rest of the pack. Tossing you into the album is a 1:44 second instrumental, reggae dub, "Hold My beer and Watch This." The reggae/ska blend that everyone fell in love with in the mid-90's is very present throughout this album as well. Tracks like "Good Morning," "Thank You Reggae," and "Government Center," all spew the up-tempo reggae goodness that you want to hear from a band fusing together influences of ska, reggae, and punk the way these guys do. Round all of this out with the bonus track, their version of the popular Jimmy Cliff tune "The Harder They Come" and you have just stumbled upon a great band and an equally as great album."
www.the-peak.ca/article/1769 "Mix together Dicky Barret-inspired vocals (of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones) with a smooth dub backdrop, then throw in a hybrid of ska, reggae, and rock, and you end up with Jaya the Cat’s latest and most impressive effort. The title, More Late Night Transmissions With . . . , perfectly fits the album’s generally easy-going atmosphere. It wouldn’t be hard to imagine relaxing to songs like “Blur,” “Hello Hangover,” or “Closing Time” while watching a summer sunset. Undoubtedly, the band feels most at home during these slow, instant summertime classics. A few speedy punk-influenced tracks, like “Nightbus” and “Government Centre,” pop up occasionally, but fortunately these more generic-sounding songs are few and far between. As for lyrical content, most of the tracks do little to ward off stereotypes about the band’s hometown, Amsterdam. With the exception of a few politically minded tracks, the majority either centre around or at least reference some form of nightlife. Bars, booze, and pot use dominate the album. The band loosely organizes the tracks to reflect a day in the life of a chronic partier, chronologically exploring the consequences of such reckless behaviour. At the very least, the idea provides an entertaining perspective. Since anything associated with skacore more or less ‘died’ after the ‘90s, More Late Night Transmissions With . . . is a much-needed remedy that fills the void. Cole Faulkner"
www.babbleandbeat.com/music-reviews/jaya-the-cat.html "The opening track, 'Hold My Beer and Watch This', is a funky jam-out and almost instantly confirmed I was going to seriously love Jaya The Cat. Next comes 'Blur'. Let me tell you, this track is fucking ace. Seriously. This one's catchy as all get-out.
'Good Morning', aka track 3, is a really solid track. 'Thank You Reggae' and 'Hello Hangover' follow and can be added right below 'Blur' to the highlights list. 'Mistake', 'Night Bus' and 'Carnival' are high energy rock-outs. 'Voice of the Poor' is pure rap/hard rock/punk/reggae bliss with lyrical depth. It's a brilliant addition to the album. 'Closing Time' shows even more versatility with this dance-influenced and somewhat seductive track. A bonus track, 'The Harder They Come', is included and proves to be a pretty decent cover. Bottom line is all 14 tracks are really good at minimum, most are great, and a few are outstanding. There isn't one single song on the 'More Late Night Transmissions With...' release that doesn't deserve to be. I love the vocals, the personality that comes through in the music, the beats, the soul and passion, the variety of genres they work with, the energy,... Please take a few moments to check their music out."
