Biography Jeroen Kok

So yeah...I'm the new guy, playing the bass since last summer following a long list of low-end rulers.
I'm originally from Hilversum, a nice little town nearby Amsterdam. I started playing bass when I was about 14, because my best friend from next door started playing guitar and his brother drums and with me on bass we had a band - simple as that.
I just wanted to make music and I still do.
I got into hardcore punk in the mid nineties and played in a bunch of loud bands, who just gigged their local shows.
Through hardcore I discovered Bad Brains who got me massively into reggae music. The unlikely mix of punk and reggae of bands like The Clash, The Specials and Sublime really stuck with me and with my good friends Doug and Bas I formed the band SunFireSouls, now doing guitar and vocals. We were doing our thing and supported Jaya a bunch of time in Holland and we all became good friends.
Then last spring Geoff asked me to fill in on bass for the Eastern European tour, which was a blast. Over the summer I started playing more and more in the band and now I'm making more music then ever...and back on the bass.
Love it!

Next to these two bands, I'm a booker in a cool little venue called the Winston in the red light district of Amsterdam and occasionally work in a little recordshop called 't Oor in in my old hometown Hilversum.
Other than all that I'm basicly just a silly drunk having fun..

Hobbies:
Drinking beer with friends in the sun, Cruising through Vondelpark on my longboard, Travelling the world, to oceans and mountains, Strumming my old Gibson acoustic, Hangin out at Timboektoe, the best beachbar in Holland, Movies and hasjish

Favorite bands:
Bob Marley & The Wailers...Aston 'Family Man' Barett baby!

Favorite song:
'I and I Survive' by the Bad Brains. It changed everything.

Favorite Jaya song:
Just The Way It Goes on record and although it's a cover, Armagideon Time live. Sick bassline and the whole band explodes!

Funniest tour story:
Touring with Jaya is more a giant pubcrawl through Europe then anything else, so it's all pretty much the same but good, if you know what I mean. Unfortunately that also means you don't remember that much haha...but anyway, last week we were on a surreal overnight party cruise to England with a Bulgarian cover band and dancers included. Holy shit, that was a different trip! I even won a bottle of champagne....

Coolest place to tour:
Australia, hope we get to go there

Equipment I use:
Stingray thru Ampeg SVT + 8x10. Booom!
