Biography Geoff Lagadec

I was born in Framingham Ma, and was raised on the south shore of Ma. I always wanted to play drums but my folks weren’t too keen on the idea of a drum kit in the house so my dad bought me a 99 dollar guitar and an old Fender Bassman amp instead. Pretty much all I ever did with it was turn everything up to ten and make it feed back.
So in retrospect they should have just got me the damn drum kit cause I drove them just as crazy with the guitar.
Around the age of 17 I discovered acid and me and my friend Chris started writing songs on my dads 4 track when he wasn’t home. I wasn’t suppose to use the thing so we’d have to draw a diagram of all the settings he had it on before the acid kicked in so we could leave it in it’s original state. My dad’s a bit anal. He’d notice if one dial was moved a millimeter. Pretty much most of the material we came up with involved me screaming over really wigged out funk music.
My friends Neal, Dave, Ted and I started Jaya in the mid ninties cause we were broke and it seemed like a good thing to do to pass the time. I had finally gotten a drum kit by then and I was the first drummer.
At this point though, what I really wanted to do was play the bass. None of us could sing at all however, (well I guess Ted could a bit) and somehow I ended up with a mic in front of me and a guitar strapped around my shoulder.
I never liked being a frontman and I still don’t. So I wear sunglasses onstage.
As my friend Stacie Adams would say, ‘boo fuckin’ hoo for you Geoff!’ I guess Jaya is kinda heavy but I never hear it. Our old bass player Ben had a theory that while the rest of the guys are onstage rocking out I just close my eyes and pretend I’m in a reggae band. He’s pretty much right.
